Juvenile crime rates are rising all round the world. How can this trend be counteracted ?

A juvenile is an individual who is under an age fixed by law (such as 18 years), reflecting psychological or intellectual immaturity. That maybe one of the main reasons why juvenile crime rates have been rising all around in the world.

  • Youths lack the maturity to think before acting on their feet resulting in them committing crimes as a grave mistake in their lives. As the FBI data from last fall show violent crimes by youths, including murders and robberies, rose by 3.7 percent nationwide during the a 2.2 percent crime hike in 2005 — the first increase since 2001.first six months of 2006. Those findings came on top of a 2.2 percent crime hike in 2005 — the first increase since 2001.
  • Another possible reason why crimes are surging among youths is due to the increased numbers of broken families. Resulting in the lack of parental love and guidance.
nThe rate of juvenile crime within each state is closely linked to the percentage of children raised in single-parent families. States with a lower percentage of single-parent families, on average, will have lower rates of juvenile crime. State-by-state analysis indicates that, in general, a 10 percent increase in the number of children living in single-parent homes (including divorces) accompanies a 17 percent increase in juvenile crime.
  • Because single parents need to work to support the family, it is hard for them to look after the emotional needs of the child too. This also results in the lack of parental monitoring, supervision and a close and intimate relationship with the child.
  • Due to this weak rapport between the parent and child, and continued weakness in parental supervision and monitoring, it causes children to deepen affiliation with delinquent groups. Offering them a place 'where they belong'. Teens are also are easily influenced by gang membership and glamorized violence in popular culture.
There are a few ways in which this trend of juvenile crimes can be counteracted. most importantly, it is necessary to nip the problem at its roots.- its causes.

  • There is seemingly no effective way to help youths grow to be more matured. The only methods in which may or may not help youths are through talks, constant education and care groups. Youths may prefer to switch off during the talks or behave apathetically when these treatments are offered to them. Hence this counteraction may not be effective as it is up to youths to make the decision on accepting these 'theories'.
  • As for the lack of parental supervision due to the increased rates of broken families, there is little an organization or government can do, except to promote love and togetherness in a marriage. Also, governments can give longer child care leave for both parent and promote working from home so that single parents may get the chance to bond and improve their ties with their teens, as well as to supervise them.
  • In response to the increased numbers of gang violence, the Justice Department is pledging to spend nearly $50 million this year to combat gangs and guns, and will push Congress to enact new laws to let the federal government better investigate and prosecute violent crime. Gonzales also will announce spending $31 million in new funds this year to combat gangs, according to the Justice Department.
There is a ballooning number of juvenile crimes all around the world. this is seen by the statistics found by the FBI. However, there is both good and bad news. The bad news is that there may be little done to help counter this. Especially when it comes to the psychological aspect of a human brain. Whereby it is hard to convince one the supposed ways of life, the maturity that they are suppose to have and the actions they should take. Nevertheless, there is good news. Governments are recognizing the increased in gang violence and have thus taken measures to combat it. Hence we can be more optimistic about the situation as the Governments are not turning a blind eye to such crimes.
